Lie Vs Lay Guide

The 'versus lie vs lay' debate has been rekindled once again thanks to the release of the recently released Chris Scott Cooper's best selling book, 'The Truth About Lie Vs Lay'. In this guide, Cooper lays out the differences between what we call the truth and what we call lies. He claims that there is a difference between what we consider to be a lie and what we consider to be the truth. If you are like me, then you will find that some of the things that are in this guide may not sit well with you. I have written the following article to disabuse you of these misconceptions.

Now I admit that there are times when people have to tell the truth in order to protect their interests. I'm sure that everyone has encountered a situation where they had to tell the truth in order to save themselves from being harmed or from facing serious personal consequences. The problem is that there is a difference between the truth and 'lies'. The truth is what is right for you. The lies, on the other hand, are what are wrong and should not be accepted as truth.

Now then, you might say to me - why is that the case? Why would anyone in his right mind ever tell a lie? Well consider this - if someone was plotting to kill you, kill your friends, harm your family - and if they were doing so in the clear light of day - wouldn't you think that the truth would probably out. The fact that it doesn't always do so, and that many people do lie, only supports this view.

Lie Vs Lay Guide

The 'versus lie' guide claims that if you are going to tell the truth, you need to do so without reserve, and without holding back a bit. In other words, you have to be completely honest with yourself if you expect to succeed. I would like you to look at this a little more closely... if you tell someone something that they want to hear - or perhaps believe, and they ask you questions that get them thinking along the lines of what you're saying - then you're potentially lying.

People's ears can be trained to listen more carefully, and they may well believe you more based upon what they hear than what you say. This is known as 'conditioning.' If you tell someone that something is false, and they know that it isn't true, but still tell them so - then you've just lied to them. People are smart and they'll catch on to this.

And if you're really honest, what's so bad about telling the truth - if you are being completely honest, of course. You aren't trying to make up the truth, you're just stating the facts. Now if someone asks you a question that gets you thinking about how the world works, and you answer correctly and honestly - then you're actually being pretty accurate, aren't you? It doesn't really matter whether you're being totally honest or not, because in the end people are going to choose whether to believe you over someone else who isn't. The only thing that matters is the quality of your answers, and how much you care about people.

Now, back to the lie vs lay guide. This is a guide that is designed to teach you how to lie when you need to, and it's also a guide that teach you the truth when people want to hear it. In other words, it isn't just a tool that you use when you're being dishonest; it's also a tool that you use to help you gain the strength to lie when you have to. And the truth is, everyone needs that, right?

People lie every day, and most people don't even realize it. It's kind of like holding yourself in an invisible vice - you don't see it, but it's there. When you become more conscious of the way you act, and the words that you choose - then you'll be able to lie when you need to - because you'll have another set of eyes watching your behavior and not just your own.
